Ran a few miles

I took our dog on a jog this morning from Harbor Steps to Myrtle Edwards Park and back. It was a pretty nice jog and the dog got tired before I did. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad though.

BTW, I wish WordPress’s QuickPress functionality included a list of previously used tags and same for categories. I guess I may stop tagging and/or categorizing my posts. Oh well.

Vegas Jog

This past weekend, H. and I were in Las Vegas for a friend’s wedding and since she’s now training for a half-marathon, she needed to do 50 minutes of cardio.  I had not been working-out in a while (as I hadn’t been feeling well) but I decided to give it a go since we were out of town and I figured it was better to exercise than gamble.

Though I kept my pace relatively slow (and H. was kind enough not to run circles around me) and we did between three and four miles on flat ground taking down Las Vegas Blvd from Flamingo to Tropicana, out to Paradise Blvd. (the one your cabbie probably drove on to get to the Convention Center), back to Flamingo down Paradise, and then back to Las Vegas down Flamingo.  FWIW, this is the larger jogging route recommended by the Harrah’s chain.

H. was disappointed that the paths were not in better shape, but I was just happy that it felt good to be running again.

FWIW–
Rob

More running with Della

Let me start by defining three “laps” that I’ve been doing with our dog Della.  Each starts from our home near the Pike Place market, runs south/southeast toward SoDo, and then heads north toward Victor Steinbrueck park.

  • Short lap – South to Madison St. (four blocks before Yesler)
  • Regular lap – South to Yesler St.
  • Extended lap – South to King St. (four blocks past Yesler)

There’s also an estimate that H made that it was one mile from Yesler St. to Bell St. along the waterfront.

So this past week, in additional to a Tuesday Racquetball game and walking Della from downtown to her Doggy Daycare south of SafeCo field on Wednesday; I had two pretty good runs:

  • Friday: 1/2 regular lap, 2-mile rule (Yesler –> Bell –> Yesler), then 2nd half or regular lap
  • Sunday: two consecutive regular laps

Now I just wish I wasn’t sore 🙂

Elliptical: 40 min, 2.77 mi, 519 cal

One of the treadmills was broken today so I used the elliptical.  I tried to match the 5,5,10,5,10,5 program but using it’s “Levels.”

Time (min) Elliptical Level Include (%) Notes
5 3 n/a walk
5 4 n/a jog
10 5 n/a run
5 4 n/a jog
10 5 n/a run
5 3 n/a run

Here’s what I was reading:

Things to do to improve my work-out:

  • Get a hair cut
(I reported the issue with WordPress tags to a friend who works on the WL Writer team and she is investigating 🙂 )

Treadmill: 35 min, 2.87 mi, 396 cal

Today I decided to increase my intensity (5.5 mph –> 6mph for the run part.)  I also reviewed the program and found that I was supposed to be doing a cool down after the second run so I cut that from 10min –> 5min

(Another cut and paste entry; I need to switch to WL Writer, but I’m on a shared computer since we have house guests this weekend)

Time (min) Speed (mph) Incline (%) Notes
5 3.5 0 walk
5 4.8 0 jog
5 6.0 0 run
7 4.8 1 jog
8 6.0 1 run
2 4.8 1 jog
3 3.5 1 walk

I’ll also try to log what I was reading or listening to during my run. In this case, Reading:

Another 5:45am day; some slight increases in my jog speed

Treadmill: 40 min, 2.86 mi, 391 cal

I’m trying week 1 of a program to run a 5k.  It’s:
walk–>jog–>run–>jog–>run–>jog–>walk
and the times vary as you get better.  Here’s what I did this morning:

(Aside: why doesn’t WordPress’s editor support tables?  Switching to code…)
